Cultural Contributions of Catalonia

Professional Catalan Translation Services

Catalans are extremely proud of their region and its particular culture, which includes many artistic and architectural contributions to the rest of the world.
Salvador Dalí and Joan Miró were both born and raised in Catalonia. Pablo Picasso was born in Málaga but later moved to Barcelona where he developed his cubist style and was quite prolific.

Catalonia, especially Barcelona, is peppered with art museums housing collections from some of the greatest Catalan artists. Some of the most prominent museums in the region are the Teatre-Museu Dalí, the Joan Miró Foundation, the National Art Museum of Catalonia (MNAC), the Pablo Picasso Museum, and the Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art (MACBA).

Gaudí is another huge name from Catalonia, and his architectural designs can be found in Barcelona as well as other parts of the region. He was one of the best modernist architects and left a great legacy behind, inspiring new generations decades later.

About The Catalan Language

Catalan is part of the Western Romance language family, and not simply a dialect of Spanish, as many believe it to be. Phonetically, it is closer to Occitan compared to Spanish, but its vocabulary reflects its origins in Vulgar Latin.

There are two main dialect groups of Catalan, called Oriental and Occidental. These can be further divided into more groups, such as Valencian, Balearic, and Central. The main differences from one dialect to another are seen in pronunciation, conjugation of some verbs, and vocabulary.

As with any language used that has multiple dialects, you must take care to ensure your Catalan translations are accurate for the specific market you are targeting. At Alpha Omega Translations we have Catalan translators who work exclusively with their particular native dialect of the language to ensure your translation make sense for the culture.
